Standing for Christian Marriage Restoration
If you are separated
from the wife or husband of your youth (first marriage for both of you) you are
commanded to remain single, or else be reconciled. Paul wrote:
“To the married I give this command (not I, but
the Lord): ‘A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or
else be reconciled to her husband. And a
man must not divorce his wife.”
(1
Corinthians 7: 10-11 NIV)
Therefore
if we want to be a follower of Jesus Christ, we do not have the right to seek
consolation in the arms of another. We take our consolation from the Holy
Spirit who Jesus gives to all those who are born of and follow Him.
In a
culture that glorifies sex and romantic relationship as the ultimate goals for
happiness both inside and outside of the “Church”, obedience to this command
will meet with little support and much opposition.
In both the
world and mainstream Christianity, you will be encouraged to “go along, so you
can get along” by not living by this command in such a way as to make waves or
ruffle the feathers of those who are disobedient and unrepentant.
It is
vitally important that you allow God to fill you with His love and
unconditional forgiveness of all others. Only then will the chains of
unfulfilled desire and loneliness be broken and you can live joyfully in
Christ.
